Available for Public Comment
June 29, 2010 thru July 29, 2010
The attached document, Yakima County Home Consortium 2010-2014 Consolidated Plan for Affordable Housing, is up for Public Comment from June 29, 2010 through July 29, 2010. The HOME Investment Partnerships Act (HOME) Program is administered by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). HOME is the largest Federal block grant to State and local governments designed exclusively to create affordable housing for low-income households. Each year HUD allocates approximately $2 billion among the States and hundreds of localities nationwide. This Plan provides for an assessment of needs, outlines five-year strategies, and establishes an Annual Plan including the proposed use of grant funds.
Yakima County, as the Lead Entity, and in partnership with the cities of Sunnyside, Toppenish, Wapato, Grandview, Union Gap, and Mabton have formed a consortium to access funds (~$740,000.00 a year) to address the issue of affordable housing in Yakima County over a 3 year period. As the program continues, it is expected other jurisdictions will join. All of these funds must serve low-income households at or below 80% of the area median income (AMI).
The public is encouraged to review and comment on this document prior to its submission to HUD. The County also encourages public participation in the development of the Consolidated Plan and amendments to the Plan. Citizen comments on the Plan will be considered if they are received orally at the public hearing scheduled on July 13, 2010 or submitted in writing within the 30-day period for comment to the office of the Yakima County Department of Human Services, 128 North 2nd Street; Yakima County Courthouse, Rm 102; Yakima, WA 98901. Upon request to the Yakima County Department of Human Services at 509-574-1520, materials will be available in a form accessible to persons with disabilities.
